Should we fear AI?

In these past months AI has been a trending topic, with Dall-E, and ChatGPT both being the initiative of  Open AI , which is an artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory consisting of the for-profit corporation OpenAI LP and its parent company, the non-profit OpenAI Inc. The company conducts research in the field of AI with the stated goal of promoting and developing friendly AI in a way that benefits humanity as a whole, as stated in his wikipedia profile.

Now Dall-e has released its own app available in ios and android, and despite its a freemium model, it is worth it. But aside from the entertainment about it, there's some people that look at all the AI development with not the best intention in mind.

One of the reasons of this not well intended thoughts are the use of what is called Deep Fake, let's understand that Deepfakes (a portmanteau of "deep learning" and "fake"[1]) are synthetic media in which a person in an existing image or video is replaced with someone else's likeness. While the act of creating fake content is not new, deep fakes leverage powerful techniques from machine learning and artificial intelligence to manipulate or generate visual and audio content that can be more easily deceived. Deep Fakes are simple to make, scarily simple if you are concerned about abuse. Early deepfakes were - perhaps unsurprisingly - focused on pornography. More terrifying used cases include the use of deep fakes for fake alibis in courtrooms, extortion, or terrorism.

So what do you think, should we fear AI, as the movie terminator taught us with skynet or not?
